"I find the idea of engendering the innovation/tech space very interesting. UN Women has recently established an Innovation Facility to leverage innovations for gender equality and women empowerment and we are currently working on some very interesting technological prototypes (virtual skills schools, women entrepreneur platforms, block chain technology, etc.). However, we haven't invested in developing a methodology that would engender innovation yet. This could be an action forcing event."
SDG 5 calls to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Progress is indicated by e.g. the proportion of countries with systems to track and make public allocations for gender equality and women’s empowerment, the share of women among owners or rights-bearers of agricultural land, the proportion of women in managerial positions and the proportion of seats held by women in national parliaments and local governments. By gender-proofing the different thematic clusters, G-STIC 2017 aims to raise women's participation and engagement with technological innovations for sustainable development.
