If we continue as we are today, greenhouse gas emissions will rise to 65 billion tonnes in 2030. Even if all Paris Agreement pledges are met, this still paves the way to climate catastrophe. However, doubling global circularity from its current 8.6% would drastically improve the situation. And this is possible by 2023.

Time is running out to halt the negative environmental impact caused by plastic, food, electronics and other industries’ waste. Innovation to enable a circular economy is desperately needed. The Circulars Accelerator has been launched to speed this up by supporting promising initiatives.

More than 100 billion tons of resources enter the economy every year: metals, minerals and fossil fuels as well as organic materials from plants and animals. Just 8,6% gets recycled and used again. To support our current resource use, we need 1,5 earths. So it’s high time to move to a circular economy.
