Dr. Tewari is a distinguished specialist in forestry management. His previous roles include the first Director-General of the Indian Council for Forestry Research and Education, former Member of the Planning Commission of India, a former Trustee of ICRAF, a former Member of FAO working group on biodiversity and more. Throughout his work, Dr Tewari has worked to promote the conservation and restoration of forest lands, and the development of bamboo resources for poverty reduction and environmental sustainability. He is the recipient of several awards for his work, including the World Bamboo Pioneer (2015), Alcan Prize for Sustainability (2007) and Global Uttarakhand Ratna Award for Sustainability (2005).
