11,000 participants from 140 countries joined the previous G-STIC Conferences
6th G-STIC Conference in Rio de Janeiro in 2023
4,200 participants from 140 countries joined the 6th G-STIC Conference in Rio de Janeiro and was organized by Fiocruz, one of the G-STIC co-hosts. The conference featured 46 sessions covering a wide range of topics such as climate, oceans, energy, health, water, education, and biodiversity. A Communiqué emerged from the high-level dialogue under the theme ‘Toward an Equitable and Sustainable Future: Innovative technological solutions for a better post-pandemic recovery’.
5th G-STIC Conference during World Expo in Dubai
The 5th G-STIC Conference, held during World Expo in Dubai in 2021 and 2022, attracted 3,900 participants from 125 countries. We had the honour of receiving H.E. Lazarus Chakwera, President of Malawi, who emphasized the pivotal role of technology and innovation in addressing global challenges, such as climate change. Speakers delved into breakthrough innovations for 9 societal challenges. The conference consisted of 71 sessions, 4 workshops and 4 innovation tours.
4th G-STIC Conference during the COVID-19 pandemic
During the online G-STIC Conference in 2020, UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasised that science and technology are crucial to address the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, and the growing inequalities throughout the world. Gro Harlem Brundtland highlighted during her speech that the COVID-19 pandemic is a stark illustration of how we need to work together for inclusiveness, equality, empowerment and sustainability to safeguard our common future.
3rd G-STIC Conference in Belgium in 2019
2,000 participants from 80 countries started the process of crafting an SDG assessment framework for benchmarking technological solutions during the 3rd G-STIC Conference. Bertrand Piccard, the first man who flied around the world in a solar airplane, inspired the participants with climate solutions. At the Industry Night, speakers from Unilever, DEME, AB InBev and Janssen Pharmaceutical demonstrated how businesses can foster growth and productivity while advancing the SDGs.
2nd G-STIC Conference in Belgium in 2018
During the G-STIC Conference in 2018, 1,400 participants from 90 countries discovered real-life examples of market-ready integrated technological solutions for achieving the SDGs, relating to water, energy, circular economy, food, health and education. The participants identified urgent actions necessary for deploying these solutions globally. The Chairperson Summary gives an overview of the main messages of the plenary and thematic sessions.
1st G-STIC Conference in Belgium in 2017
Technologies needed to address climate and sustainability challenges are already available, but we need to develop strategies to deploy them at scale to achieve the SDGs. That was one of the main messages emerging from the 1st G-STIC Conference that brought together 1,000 participants from 80 countries. The discussions during the conference highlighted the need to break down institutional barriers, rethink established concepts and change laws to drive sustainable development.
