G-STIC side event during COP29

The role of STI - Roadmap from the Summit of the Future to COP30
As COP29 approaches, the urgency to address climate change has never been greater. The G-STIC side event during COP29 will delve into the essential role of science and technology in tackling climate challenges, focusing on insights from the recent Summit of the Future and their implications for COP30 and beyond. Science and technology are not only essential for reducing emissions but also for building resilience and fostering adaptation.
With rapid advancements in AI, biotechnology, and data analytics, climate action is transforming. AI-driven tools offer enhanced climate modeling, predictive analytics, and real-time ecosystem monitoring, empowering policymakers with insights for impactful decisions. Biotechnology innovations, such as sustainable biofuels and food systems, have the potential to decarbonize key sectors while improving food security. However, these advancements also bring potential risks, such as inequalities in access, unforeseen environmental consequences, and ethical concerns.
During this session experts from the co-hosting institutions of G-STIC will discuss how to ensure that science and technology promote equitable and sustainable development. The discussion will also highlight the necessity of international collaboration, as climate change demands global solutions. Scaling technology transfer, capacity-building, and financial support will enable all nations, regardless of resources, to transition to a low-carbon future. The session will also reflect on the outcomes of G-STIC Delhi and look ahead to G-STIC Pretoria in 2025.
Join us to explore how science, technology, and international cooperation can drive ambitious climate action.
