CO₂ emissions originate from burning fossil fuel, industry and land-use and should be rapidly reduced (>350 Mton CO₂/year). Which CO₂ reduction strategies already exist? Which CO₂ reduction strategy should we focus on? How can CCU-based value chains contribute in the fight against climate change?

Indigenous peoples have the knowledge and practices needed to help the global community implement and scale-up climate action. The global community has an opportunity to re-orient the way it interacts with nature and build resilience for all by collaborating with and learning from indigenous peoples.

Achieving the SDGs requires breaking the link between economic growth and fossil fuels. Our resource-hungry economic activity has to be de-linked from environmental pressures by decoupling GDP growth from the resources it requires and from its impacts down the line such as GHG emissions.

Tackling climate change is about changing policies. Net zero by 2050 can only be achieved by halving current emissions by 2030. “The actions that our leaders take right now, this year, and over the eight next years, will determine whether we’re able to keep this goal within reach.”

“Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, it will be impossible,” said Professor Jim Skea, a co-chair of the latest IPCC report. We must stop our addiction to fossil fuels and harness the full potential of renewable energies if we are to end our journey to “climate hell.”
